Notably, Virginia has over a dozen Reckless Driving statues; however, the ones most frequently cited can be summoned up by the following:

  1. Any speed over 80 miles per hour (mph) regardless of the posted speed limit is reckless; and
  2. Any speed that reaches 20 mph over or more above the posted speed limit is reckless.

Things To Know About Your Ticket

A reckless driving charge is Class 1 misdemeanor. This type of misdemeanor carries the possibility up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine in the up to $2,500 plus court costs. The statute also authorizes the court to suspend your license for up to 6 months.
